About Desmond Brown
Growing Futures was formed in the summer of 2013 by Desmond Brown. Desmond has worked for over 10 years across various DWP/JCP contracts within the welfare work sector and has a wealth of experience delivering front line Advice and Guidance and engaging workshops and motivational sessions across the country to challenging often vulnerable people who are disaffected ,excluded and who have varied personal, legal and educational issues. Desmond moved to Bristol in 2012, working on the new Trouble Family Contract across the city. Going into the homes of people with chaotic lives, and helping them organise and work through their issues to obtain a positive outcome.
"I was going into people's homes and seeing what they eat, and more importantly what many of their children ate, that made me realise that something had to be done to encourage a healthy food culture."
Over the past two years Desmond has developed several successful programmes working with vulnerable groups which have been rolled out across Bristol, with more exciting projects to come for Growing Futures in 2015.
Jane Andrews - Learn Direct Very impressed with the project. How much has been achieved in a relatively short time. Students were very sociable and informed, lovely tea. Thank you.
Claire Neal - Pinnacle People Brilliant project and keep in touch if we can support or help as we have a community team. Really well done and great ideas.
Tom Penn - Bristol Council What a difference from the site visit back at the beginning of the year. The site looks great, the learners and whole team have done a great job. Really great that other plots are being let off the back of the project. Well done all.
Zia Rahman - Bristol Magistrate Nice to see young people's participation information and benefit values of various kinds of herbs, plants, mints - very useful.
Lucy Soloman - Weston College A fantastic venture. Really impressed with Sam who showed me around and explained the project, his involvement and what he is doing at KTS. Thank you for inviting me.
